What to expect
The guided tour will start from Piazza Portanova to look out to see the historic city gate on which stands the statue of the patron saint San Matteo, which seems to welcome those arriving in Salerno.
After a tour of the so-called "Rotonda" and listening to the flow of Riccardo Dalisi's Dolphin Fountain, we will continue along the alley Masuccio Salernitano, among the murals/postcards that tell the story of the historic centre.
In Via dei Mercanti we will count the columns that will lead to the atrium of the Cathedral, where we can visit the beautiful crypt and tell the story of San Matteo, who made Salerno a religious reference point over the centuries, attracting pilgrims, devotees , tourists. Leaving, you will go up to the viewpoint from which you can admire the Duomo from above, to continue towards Piazza Abate Conforti, the ancient forum. Walking through ancient Roman Salerno, between decumanus and cardo, you will arrive at the spa of the small monumental complex of San Pietro a Corte, the Arechian palace. Passing through the arches of Via Giovanni da Procida you will reach, via Porta di Mare, Palazzo di Città, whose coat of arms is represented by San Matteo, the final stop on the "Cammina Salerno" tour between history and traditions.
